Whether beginner or expert, all are welcome to learn and share! 


Workshop Topics include:

* Why work on learning about family history?

* How do I start my family history project? An introduction to Chinese surnames.

* Why did our ancestors migrate within and beyond China?

* How do I research family documents from the National Archives?

* What are some good research techniques to use to learn about my family and roots?

* Fascinating case studies showing use of many different research methods and technology.

* Journeys to the Motherland: What can I expect if I go to China? Who can help me get there?

Bring any examples of your research/ products (scrapbooks, family trees, etc.) for our special sharing time!

This conference is for those who have little or no Chinese language skills. If you would like to have your laptop configured to display Chinese characters, bring your laptop to the conference and help will be available. Also, there will be WiFi internet access at the conference site.

Speakers will include experienced researchers and genealogists, and regular folks who are finding their roots in China and America and eager to share what they have learned. Speakers include representatives from the Oakland Asian Cultural Center; Chinese Culture Center, National Archives & Records Administration, Angel Island Immigration Station Foundation. This conference is organized by an informal group of determined researchers who love to learn about their Chinese American families and ancestors, and who enjoy sharing what they find. Organizers & workshop speakers include Kathy Ang, Roy Chan, Al Cheng, Christine DeVillier, Grant Din, Michael Ho, Anne Huang, Douglas Joe, Marisa Louie, Steve Owyang, and Kay Speaks.
