Bubble Tea Chats - Spring 2010

This spring, OACC’s Oakland Chinatown Oral History Project will begin its newest phase, Bubble Tea Chats, community conversations about three particular blocks in Oakland Chinatown currently in the public forefront.  These blocks are where the Lake Merritt BART station and Madison Park currently stand, and have a long history of vibrant community life, redevelopment, displacement of residents, and now new redevelopment plans recently announced by the City of Oakland.  If you have memories of these blocks or you currently use the space and have ideas for its future use, we invite you to share your stories and photos as part of our conversations, our growing digital archive, and upcoming exhibit. The Oakland Chinatown Oral History Project's mission is to capture and preserve the living and history of Oakland Chinatown by facilitating an ongoing community dialogue across generations and cultures.
We are currently embarking on Phase 3: Bubble Tea Chats, beginning in 2010, to capture Chinatown memories and a community vision for the three blocks where Madison Park and the Lake Merritt BART station currently stand.
